You know what happens when you go on vacation? The world keeps turning! The constant stream of news and updates slows down for no man. While I was wrapped up in my blankets and trying to envision myself as being a warm tamale, IGN got an exclusive look at the upcoming Walking Dead game "Survival Instinct."
In the video above you'll see Producer Glenn Gamble talking about bringing the world of the Walking Dead to the realm of first person shooters. The game will star Daryl and Merle and will serve as a sort of companion piece to the television series. Survival Instinct will tell the brother's backstory and show their journey to the Walking Dead. Here are a few other interesting tidbits to be culled from the video:
- The game will have a bit of replay value. Taking one path over another might permanently cut you off from that option. You also wont be able to save all the survivors you meet in one game.
- Daryl's crossbow has an origin story. You wont just automatically have it, there will be a bit of story explaining how Daryl obtains it.
- Games tend to have some sort of mechanic to keep you from constantly sprinting. In Survival Instinct running around too much will cause your vision to blur from sweating.
- You and your survivor companions will share a pool of resources. Meaning they'll take weapons and survival equipment from your inventory.
The overall concept sounds pretty great and I know I'm not going to pass up a chance to jump into the shoes of Daryl, but given the high bar that Telltale's Walking Dead set for storytelling it'll be a challenge for Survival Instinct to measure up. Thankfully we wont have to wait too long to find out as the game is due out this year.
