Sounds Like a Zombie To Me

In Florida, police were shocked to discover a naked man chewing on the face of another naked man.  Now, nevermind that part about them being naked, I don't want to know what lead to that stage of events.  Instead, lets focus on the face chewing bit.  The officers were, understandably, displeased with the sight of a man eating the face of another man so they ordered him to stop.  When the man refused and proceeded to act like a "rabid dog" the police shot him multiple times.

...That's a fucking zombie.  I know, I know! Horror geeks tend to throw monster connections around all the time, but that has to be a zombie.  Eating flesh? Naked and crazed? Acting like a rabid dog? Multiple shots to bring it down?  That is a full fledged zombie.  Oh sure, it could be some dude whacked out on PCP, but if you believe that you're just lying to yourself and buying into the "man's" media misinformation scheme.   They're just trying to keep it all hush hush until it's too late!

Or I guess it could really be the drugs.  I don't know.  All I'm saying is that maybe someone should just keep an eye on the victim for a few days. Just in case.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be retreating to my underground bomb shelter for the rest of Memorial Day weekend.

Who Is This Young Man?

Here's a yearbook photo of a strapping young man who many of us know for his unique films.  Can you guess who he is?  Here's a hint: He's kind of eccentric and that's reflected in his movies.  Crappy hint? Sorry, I suck at giving out hints! Figure it out on your own and if you give up, the answer lies just below the break.

Hero Complex Interview

This past Friday in LA, the LA Times held their third annual Hero Complex film festival.  Usually what they do is they showcase older films, but then bring in some of the people behind them like the actors, directors, etc.  This year I attended the "Dawn of the Dead" remake screening and afterwards there was a brief interview with the film's director, Zack Snyder, and creator of "The Walking Dead" Robert Kirkman.  The interview is only about 30 minutes long and features some nice anecdotes about the making of the film.  Most of the time they're drilling Snyder for information about his upcoming Superman flick, but to no avail.  Robert does let loose a possible spoiler about this upcoming season of "The Walking Dead" though.  So hit the break and enjoy the conversation.

Knott's Haunt Unveils Logo

It's a big year for the annual Knott's Scary Farm Halloween Haunt attraction.  This year it creeps over the hill and turns 40 years old.  How insane is that? Not very many Halloween attractions across the nation can make that claim.

In celebration of the occasion, Knott's Berry Farm went ahead and released their logo for this year's event.  Kind of a modest looking thing.  They're also claiming that if they can reach 10,040 "likes" on their Haunt fanpage, they'll begin to release info on the upcoming haunt event.  Given the popularity of the event, it shouldn't be too long before we see something.

Until then though, here's what we know so far about this year's event:

  • We'll see 12 mazes, six shows, 4 scare zones and approximately 1,000 scare actors throughout the park.
  • The event will run from September 21st through October 31st for a total of 25 nights
  • The kiddies will have access to "Snoopy's Costume Party," "Monster Dance Party and Costume Parade," a "Spooktacular" theater show, and 2 child friendly mazes.
Looks like it's shaping up to be another solid year for Knotts.

What To Do With Your DVDs

Have some empty wall space?  Got lots of old DVDs just piling up on you? Reddit user AllyPent might just have the solution to your problems.  Using a bit of mounting tape Ally turned her blank wall into a bad ass tribute to her horror movie passion.  In case you're wondering just how Ally got everything to look so nice and straight, she shares how she did it:

The first row I taped a piece of string along the wall and used a level to make sure it wasn't going to be super wonky. I lined up my first row under the string. I didn't actually use anything other than that to space them out. Thankfully I've usually got a pretty good eye for that sort of thing. You could always just use some random thing you have kicking around like a credit card or something to make sure everything is even. I would have done that but I'm farrrr too impatient.

The First Halloween

I've often thought about what the first traditional Halloween was like.  Could you imagine being the first kid in the history of the world to go trick or treating?  That blows my mind!

Today through science, wizardry and artistic creativity, we now know what the first Halloween was actually like.  As we all know, Frankenstein's monster and his bride gave birth to baby Dracula, he slept in his Gothic manger that night under the watchful eye of a demonic gargoyle.  From the east came the three wise zombies, looking to bare gifts and eat brains.  That night the Mummy and the Werewolf had pulled shepherd duty and were in charge of the hell hounds when they received news about the birth of baby Dracula.

This beautiful scene can now be replicated in homes across America, with a bit of your help.  Tim and Kurt are the masterminds behind this twisted take on the traditional nativity scene and they're looking for sponsors to try and get their project rolling.  They've started a Kickstarter where they've laid out their project in full detail and where you can go to donate to their cause, if you so desire.

The wonderful thing about Kickstarter though is that it's set-up so that you can not only donate to a great project like this one, but you can also receive things in return.  For example, if you were to donate $25 you would get the box set of this nativity scene, along with a few other treats.  When this thing goes to retail it'll probably run for $29.99, so you'd be doing yourself a favor by jumping on now.

Like the project, but can't financially help? No worries! Tell your friends and spread the word around.  Word of mouth goes a long way these days.

28 Months Later Update?

This image appeared on the "28 Days Later" fanpage yesterday.  WHAT DOES IT MEAN?! The last update from that fanpage came April 9th, this is the first image they've dropped in a long time.  Could it mean that something is coming?  The long rumored "28 Months Later?" Or is it just another graphic novel?  Maybe they're just fucking with fans?  Either way this tiny update has caused quite a stir among fans of the series, hopefully we wont have to wait too long to find out what it's all about.

Oren Peli Haunts Reddit

Oren Peli, the man who got his big break by shocking the world with his debut film "Paranormal Activity," took to the world of Reddit to answer questions and promote his next big project "Chernobyl Diaries."  The excerpts below are just an example of the questions and answers you can find on the original Reddit thread, which is here. A lot of these questions are unedited, so expect some raw emotional power.  And grammatical errors.

DanielFord15: I heard that when the studios bought out the rights for Paranormal Activity 1, they asked to change and retake the ending. Why did you let them do this?

Oren Peli: In test-screenings the original ending didn't play as strongly as the rest of the film so we experimented with new endings. In one of the most surreal episodes of my life, an ending was suggested by Spielberg which we shot, tested and it played great in front of an audience.

Gypsy Whisperer: Did you expect Paranormal Activity to explode and be as successful as it was?
How did it affect your relationship with your girlfriend?

Oren Peli: Not at all. As I was making it, I had to be hopeful that if the movie turned out great, maybe it'll get limited theatrical distribution, but the odds are definitely against you. but that hope kept me motivated.
It didn't help the relationship - we are no longer together, although that wasn't the main reason.

Don't Fear the Hobo: In writing Paranormal Activity, did you purposely try to add comic relief? Micah had a few humorous lines, and the entire theater was cracking up as soon as the psychic said he had couldn't be there. Was this intentional, or just a happy accident?

Oren Peli: Some of it was intentional, some accidental, and most of it thanks to Micah's improv. About 99% of it (the dialog) was improv.

Dance Studio Haven For Ghosts

So is this really just an excuse for me to talk about strippers? Possibly.

Wendy Reardon claims that her pole dancing studio is haunted by not just one spirit, but up to 8 of them.  She believes that the reason so many of the ghosts are flocking to her studios is because, frankly, they like what they see.  So we've got ourselves a bunch of creepy pervert ghosts hanging around a dance studio, ogling some women who just want to work the pole. The afterlife doesn't sound so bad now.

Using her iPhone, Wendy has managed to capture some footage of what she claims to be the ghosts along with some hilarious dialog.  You can watch the videos below the break and decide for yourself if this is all a publicity stunt for her studio or a genuine haunting.

Tron of the Dead Shirts

Do you like "Tron?" Do zombies make you squeal in delight?  Then how would you like to wear a shirt where those two loves collide in one glorious intersection?

Tron of the Dead is a t-shirt/hoodie by artist Gimetzco and he's currently selling his t-shirts for as low as $10.  Not a bad deal for a beautiful piece of nerd real estate that you can take with you wherever you go.  If you wore this to Comic-con you'd be beating the geek chicks/dudes off with a stick!
